²¹ The Israelites and Philistines were lining up their men ·to face each other in battle [army against army].

²² David left ·the food [his baggage/bundle/things] with the man who kept the supplies and ran to the battle line to ·talk to [greet; ^Linquire about the welfare of] his brothers. ²³ While he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, came out [^Lfrom the Philistine ranks]. He shouted things against Israel as usual, and David heard him.
